The Importance of Social Responsibilities from an Enterprise

All institutions exist for a purpose beyond itself. A hospital cannot be sustained without a community and schools cannot exist without students. In order to be able to produce and sustain, there must be a society and individuals that can take advantage of the goods and services. This transaction between enterprise and consumer concludes to a win/win situation and potential success in the future. Managing the social impacts and responsibilities of an enterprise is critical to not only maintain an institution, but expand on it as well.

A manager in an institution placing a focus on the impacts of communities is critical to success. Internal satisfaction from employees is not enough to keep an institution alive, every output from employees results in an impact positively or negatively to society. The control of positives versus negatives and maintaining the balance between profitable sustainability are a key task of any executive in any environment. Rigs searching and drilling for oil near communities help provide wealth for its enterprise and towns; however, the downside is the harmful environmental effects caused by the rigs being there. If an oil rig was built and after a year there was no significant output, that rig would be closed down due to the environmental consequences outweighing the economic benefit. Rigs that perform near towns and communities put out as much or more pollution in the air and lakes, but with the profit continuously coming in, a portion of that income is allocated to being “socially responsible” by cleaning up the water sources, cleaning the air and improving the quality of life. It is these energy suppliers that maintain viability as they are maintaining a balance between positives and negatives with the nonmembers of the organization: the community.

An enterprise being a helpful neighbor and effective support in any community determine its survival. Management needs to focus on tasks internally as well as externally for those that do not work for the enterprise, but have an impact on the enterprise: the people living within the physical and social environment. Having concern for the quality of life and living standards also determine whether individuals wish to work for and support your enterprise or support another.
